Abstract
The role of visual elements has grown in importance for the teaching–learning process in today’s educational setting. For this reason, visual literacy refers to students’ ability to understand, interpret, analyze, and create meaning with image-based materials, and these include diagrams, charts, graphs, and multimedia resources. In developing new knowledge, learners construct meaning by connecting new information to what they already know and by applying that knowledge to real-world situations. This study intends to identify the role of visual literacy as a strategy to foster meaningful learning among students.
The focus of the research will be on how the effective use of visuals in instructional materials will facilitate students’ understanding, engagement, retention, and critical thinking. It will also explore the importance of teaching visual literacy to foster inclusive education by providing a range of accommodations to address students’ varied learning styles and reducing barriers to language and learning. The research design will be descriptive and will use a variety of research tools, including surveys, classroom observation, and interviews, to collect information from a variety of selected teacher and student participants.
The findings of this research are expected to provide documentation of the positive effects of visual literacy strategies on learners’ experiences and academic success. Subsequently, the importance of incorporating visual literacy into teachers’ instructional practices and the importance of including visual literacy training to create more engaging, accessible, and interactive learning environments for stud will be emphasised.
