Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the recruitment process, enabling organisations to automate their candidate assessment, gain insights from data, and make informed hiring decisions. In this conceptual paper, the authors explore how AI use in the recruitment process relates to startup organizations' quality of hire, suggesting a mediating role for data-driven decision-making. AI adoption is defined in terms of the use of AI for résumé screening, AI chatbots, predictive analytics, and recruitment automation. The paper builds on the current body of research on AI and HRM, and data-driven recruitment, and suggests that the use of AI will improve the quality of hire and data-driven decision making in HRM. It also believes that decision-making based on data enables the systematic and evidence-based evaluation of candidates, which leads to better hiring results from AI-generated data. The proposed framework deals with startups, which is a relatively under-researched context of an organization with critical talent demands, rapid growth, and limited resources. The paper provides a narrow focus for the future of empirical study on AI assisted recruitment.
