Abstract

Financial Technology (FinTech) and digital payments have emerged as major forces transforming the global financial and commercial landscape. The rapid development of smartphones, internet connectivity, digital banking, mobile applications, digital wallets, real-time payment systems, artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, and application programming interfaces has changed the manner in which individuals and businesses access financial services and conduct commercial transactions. Digital payments have reduced dependence on physical cash, increased transaction speed, enabled remote commerce, and created new opportunities for individuals and enterprises that have historically faced barriers to formal financial services.
This article examines the role of FinTech and digital payments in promoting financial inclusion and supporting the growth of modern commerce. The study adopts a conceptual and descriptive research methodology based on secondary sources, including academic literature, institutional publications, industry reports, books, and international development research. The article examines the relationship between FinTech innovation, digital payment adoption, access to financial services, small-business development, consumer behaviour, and commercial growth. It also discusses the contribution of digital financial services to banking access, savings, credit, insurance, remittances, entrepreneurship, and electronic commerce. The study identifies important challenges, including cybersecurity, fraud, data privacy, digital exclusion, financial illiteracy, technological dependence, regulatory uncertainty, and unequal access to digital infrastructure. The article argues that FinTech can contribute significantly to inclusive economic development when digital financial services are affordable, accessible, secure, transparent, and supported by appropriate regulation. The study concludes that FinTech and digital payments are not merely technological innovations but important components of modern commercial infrastructure, capable of strengthening financial inclusion, reducing transaction costs, expanding market participation, and supporting the growth of digital commerce.
